Refund & Cancellation Policy
Donations are normally final — but here is exactly when we will return one, and how to ask.
A donation is a gift, not a purchase, so donations to Erakathin Uthavi are normally final and non-refundable. We do make exceptions where something has genuinely gone wrong, and this page explains when and how.

1. The general rule
Donations are applied to our programmes soon after they are received — school kits are bought, medicines are paid for, the care home is provisioned. Once that has happened the money cannot be returned. Please give only what you intend to give.
2. When we will refund
We will refund a donation in full where:
- you were charged twice for the same donation, or the same amount left your account more than once;
- you entered the wrong amount — for example ₹50,000 instead of ₹5,000 — and tell us promptly;
- the amount debited does not match the amount you intended to donate;
- the donation was made without your authorisation, or from an account that is not yours;
- you donated from outside India, which we are not permitted to accept.
Please raise any of these within seven (7) days of the donation. We will still look at a later request, but by then the funds may already be committed.
3. When we cannot refund
- A change of mind after the donation has been applied to a programme.
- A request made long after the donation, where the funds have already been spent.
- A request to redirect a donation to a different cause once it has been disbursed — though we will always try to accommodate this before disbursement.
- A donation where the deduction has already been claimed under Section 80G on the strength of our Form 10BE certificate.
4. How to request a refund
Email info@erakathinuthavi.org or call +91 93626 29234 with:
- the name the donation was made in;
- the date and the amount;
- the UPI reference, UTR or transaction number;
- a one-line explanation of what went wrong.
We will acknowledge your request within two working days.
5. How long it takes
Approved refunds are returned to the same account or UPI ID the donation came from — we cannot refund to a different account. Expect the money back within 7 to 10 working days of approval. Your bank may take a little longer to show it.
We do not deduct a handling charge from a refund. Where a payment provider has already charged a non-recoverable transaction fee, we absorb it.
6. Effect on your 80G receipt
If we refund a donation for which a receipt has already been issued, that receipt is cancelled and is no longer valid for a tax deduction. If we have already filed the donation in Form 10BD, we will file a correction. Please do not claim a deduction on a donation that has been refunded to you.
7. Failed and pending payments
If money left your account but the payment failed at your bank's end, it is usually reversed automatically within three to five working days without us being involved — we never received it. If it has not come back after five working days, contact your bank first, then tell us and we will check our end.
8. Stopping a monthly gift
If you have set up a recurring donation, you can stop it at any time, with no notice period and no reason needed. Email or call us, or cancel the mandate in your own UPI or banking app. Payments already collected before you cancel are not refunded, but nothing further will be taken.
Questions
We would much rather sort out a problem than leave a donor unhappy. Call +91 93626 29234, write to info@erakathinuthavi.org, or use our contact form.
