About Erakathin Uthavi

Serving humanity with compassion, hope, and love — through education, healthcare and elder care, one family at a time.

2011 The year eleven school kits became a lifelong promise

Our story

A promise that grew, one street at a time

Erakathin Uthavi — "the help of grace" — began in 2011 on a single street in Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, when a small group of neighbours pooled their savings to buy school bags for eleven children who could not otherwise start the new term. Word spread, hands multiplied, and the same instinct that supplied books soon found itself paying hospital bills and cooking dinner for elders with nobody left to cook for them.

Today we are a registered charitable trust with a full-time care home, a network of volunteer teachers and health workers, and an audited annual report we publish every April so every donor can see exactly where their rupee went. What has never changed is the promise we started with: nobody in our community should face school, sickness or old age alone.

In their words

What our families say

My daughter nearly stopped going to school when my husband lost work. The trust paid her fees and brought her books to our door. She is in class nine now, first in mathematics.

Lakshmi R.Parent, Ramanathapuram

We were asked for a deposit we did not have. A volunteer came to the hospital the same night with the money and stayed until the surgery was over. I still cannot explain what that meant.

Murugan S.Father, Sundarapuram

After my son moved abroad the house was very quiet. Here there is a garden, someone to argue about the newspaper with, and a doctor every Tuesday. It is a home, not a shelter.

Parvathi A.Resident, aged 74

I volunteer at the Sunday health camp. What convinced me to keep coming back was seeing the accounts pinned on the wall — every rupee, every month, where it went.
