Welcome to Erakathin Uthavi

Three needs, one promise: nobody faces them alone

Erakathin Uthavi began in a single street in Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, with school kits for eleven children. Today our volunteers walk alongside families through the three moments life is hardest to carry alone — a child's schooling, a sudden hospital bill, and the long quiet years of old age.

Mission

To make education, healthcare and elder care reachable for every family in Tamil Nadu, regardless of what they can pay.

Vision

A community where no child leaves school, no illness goes untreated, and no elder grows old without company.

Every rupee is receipted, every programme is audited, and our annual report is published in full each April.

In their words

What our families say

My daughter nearly stopped going to school when my husband lost work. The trust paid her fees and brought her books to our door. She is in class nine now, first in mathematics.

Lakshmi R.Parent, Ramanathapuram

We were asked for a deposit we did not have. A volunteer came to the hospital the same night with the money and stayed until the surgery was over. I still cannot explain what that meant.

Murugan S.Father, Sundarapuram

After my son moved abroad the house was very quiet. Here there is a garden, someone to argue about the newspaper with, and a doctor every Tuesday. It is a home, not a shelter.

Parvathi A.Resident, aged 74

I volunteer at the Sunday health camp. What convinced me to keep coming back was seeing the accounts pinned on the wall — every rupee, every month, where it went.
